    Description

    1822 B-1 Capped Bust Quarter, AU55
    Richly Toned and Choice

1822 25C AU55 NGC. B-1, R.2. The B-1 variety has a flat-based 2 as part of the denomination -- the most common of two die pairings for the date, each sharing the same obverse die for the Mint's total production of 64,080 pieces. Minimal wear is present on the high points of this attractive quarter, accounting for the assigned grade. There are no distractions or other grade-limiting factors, however, and the coin displays original, smooth surfaces with a sharp strike for the issue. A tiny mark in the right obverse field is the only mentionable abrasion. Golden mint luster enlivens pleasing, bronze-gray surfaces with olive-green undertones. Census: 5 in 55, 37 finer (1/14).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 23RN, PCGS# 5332)
