Prooflike 1822 Quarter and Close to Mint State
1822 AU 58. B-1, R.2, normal denomination on the reverse. Despite a mintage that is significantly lower than many of its contemporaries, the 1822 sells for only a small premium. This is a truly impressive example that has bright prooflike fields that flash forcefully beneath the iridescent scarlet, blue, and rose toning that underlies the thin overlay of gray patina that lightly covers each side. Fully struck on the reverse with slight softness noted on the highpoints of the obverse.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23RN, PCGS# 5332, GSID# 5070)
