Description

1824/2 B-1 Quarter, Near-Mint
Conditionally Rare, Few Marks

1824/2 25C B-1, R.3, AU58 NGC. Rich navy-blue and olive-green toning encompasses this nicely struck and lightly abraded near-Mint example. Slight wear is apparent on Liberty's forehead and the crest of the eagle's wings. The 2 underdigit is visible as a spur beneath the left foot of the 4, and a curl below the right foot. The outer curve of the 2 is perceptible over the diagonal of the 4. The sole 1824-dated die marriage, and scarcer than suggested by its Guide Book mintage of 168,000 pieces. Most survivors are well circulated, and examples have been certified in grades as low as Fair 2. Census: 4 in 58, 3 finer (4/15).
