1828 25/50C Capped Bust Quarter, AU58
B-3, Among the Finest Known

1828 25C 25 Over 50C, AU58 PCGS. B-3, R.5. The blundered denomination 25/50C reverse die, first used in 1822, makes a return appearance on the scarcest of four 1828 varieties. The obverse features a wide date, at least when compared with Browning-4. A well-struck and untoned representative that has considerable luster. A moderate abrasion below the right end of the scroll is barely worthy of individual mention. This exact coin is ranked #12 on the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census. PCGS population: 4 in 58, 5 finer (7/14) for all varieties.
Ex: Pre-Long Beach Sale (Ira & Larry Goldberg, 9/2003), lot 317; Orlando FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 5924.
