Description

1828 25/50C Capped Bust Quarter, AU58
B-3, Among the Finest Known, Prooflike

1828 25C 25 Over 50C, B-3, R.5, AU58 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/1. The blundered denomination 25/50C reverse die, first used in 1822, makes a return appearance on the scarcest of four 1828 varieties. The obverse features a wide date, at least when compared with Browning-4. This is a well-struck and untoned representative that has considerable luster and prooflike fields. A moderate abrasion below the right end of the scroll is barely worthy of individual mention. This exact coin is ranked #12 on the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census.
