Description

1828 B-3 Quarter, 25 Over 50C, MS62
An Absolute and Condition Rarity
Ex: Dr. Juan XII Suros-Eugene Gardner

1828 25C 25 Over 50C, FS-901, B-3, R.5, MS62 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/1. The 25/50 reverse die was carried over from its earlier use in 1822, showing a bit of rust pitting above the arrowheads, near ME of AMERICA, and above the eagle's left (facing) wing below the scroll. Repunching is seen on multiple stars. This piece is listed fourth in the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census in Early Quarter Dollars, behind a single MS65 example and two MS63 pieces. The lilac-silver centers show traces of rose that deepen near the rims to cinnamon and slate-gray patina. The softly lustrous surfaces are otherwise free of significant marks other than the aforementioned minor die rust. Momentary strike softness shows on a few reverse high points, such as the claws and some olive leaves. Overall, the eye appeal and originality are excellent. PCGS Population: 1 in 62, 1 finer (1/24).
