Description
1828 B-3 Quarter, XF40
Important and Rare 25 Over 50C
1828 25C 25 Over 50C, FS-901, B-3, R.5, XF40 PCGS.
Well-defined devices are covered in delicate wheat-gold and slate
toning. Glimpses of luster emerge from design recesses, and the
glossy surfaces are only lightly abraded. After a six-year repose
in the Mint die workshop, the blundered denomination reverse was
retrieved to strike this die marriage. As with the 1822 striking,
the 1828 variant is quite rare (R.5), especially in higher grades,
and is popular as a Guide Book variety. Population (B-3): 0
in 40, 2 finer (8/25).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2012), lot 3253; Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2014), lot 4210; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2016), lot 5457.
