Description

1828 B-4 Quarter, AU53
Pastel Peripheral Patina

1828 25C B-4, R.3, AU53 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/1. Light straw-gold and jade-green toning visits the borders of this briefly circulated example. The few unimportant field marks fail to deny the eye appeal. A low F in OF is the best identifier for B-4. The die marriage is considerably scarcer than B-1, the most prevalent 1828 marriage. B-4 was struck in both proof and business format, and glimpses of prooflike luster outline the stars and linger within the legends.
Purchased for $1,450 from Dick Osburn, 7/2005; Denis W. Loring Capped Bust Quarter Collection; to the present consignor.
