Description

1831 B-2 Quarter, MS64
Small Letters, Late Die State

1831 25C Small Letters, B-2, R.2, MS64 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 2/4. Untoned, silver-white surfaces display frosty luster and a sharp strike. Only a few small marks are widely distributed across the fields and motifs. Heavy die cracks encircle the periphery -- from the base of the denomination through the arrowheads and ERICA of AMERICA, and at the top of UNITED STATES where small cuds have started to form between ED and ST. This near-Gem example approaches the lower end of the Condition Census for the variety, tied with several other MS64 coins.
