Description
1831 Small Letters Quarter, MS64
Rare Browning-3 Variety
1831 25C Small Letters, B-3, R.5, MS64 PCGS. CAC. B-3 is a
rare die variety, and it is very rare in Uncirculated grades. The
2008 Tompkins reference lists a Condition Census topped by a
unconfirmed MS62 example and a scratched and tooled Uncirculated
details specimen. In September 2015, Heritage auctioned an NGC MS65
Prooflike example, and a PCGS MS65 appeared in our March 2013
Signature, but the present well preserved piece could qualify as
the third-finest known for the B-3 marriage. It is fully struck and
satiny with dappled tan-brown and gunmetal-blue toning.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23RW, Variety PCGS# 38982, Base PCGS# 5348, GSID# 212956)
