Description

1831 MS 64. First year of Kneass' Capped Bust series of quarter dollars, and always a popular type coin as such. This is also a very scarce and underrated series in mint condition, perhaps because so few collectors of die varieties have focused their attention on this series as they have the other pre-1836 issues. In any case, these quarters are no more available than other series and are, in fact, very scarce in Choice BU and better condition. This is an original coin that is well brought up in all areas of the design. The surfaces are toned a deep speckled gray and golden-rose with strong underlying mint frost. There are a few surface blemishes that are well hidden by the toning, but do prevent the piece from grading full Gem BU. A very worthwhile type coin for the advanced collector.
