Description

Brilliant Near-Gem 1832 Quarter Dollar From the Louis S. Joseph Collection

1832 25C MS 64 NGC. B-2, Low R.2. The fact that NGC has certified only one gem example of this early quarter dollar should enable this piece to elicit strong bids from attentive collectors. The obverse features are quite sharp, although we call attention to inconspicuous softness of definition on star 3 and the hair along Liberty's forehead. The reverse is markedly crisper with every feather and talon detail readily discernible. The surfaces have acquired a subdued slate-gray mien but the underlying mint frost still displays a bold cartwheel effect. A lone die crack is visible through stars 12 and 13 to Liberty's lowest hair curl but the surfaces are surprisingly free of post-production impairments. A significant opportunity since NGC has certified only 11 examples in MS 64 along with a lone MS 65 specimen (6/99). From the Louis S. Joseph Collection.
