    Description

    1834 Capped Bust Quarter, B-4, MS65+
    Only Seven Coins Certified Finer

1834 25C MS65+ NGC. B-4, R.1. CAC. A substantial mintage of 286,000 Capped Bust quarters was achieved in 1834, with five die varieties known for the date. The position of star 7 pointing to the upper curl on the obverse, and the C in the denomination centered under the stem on the reverse identifies this specimen as an example of the B-4 variety. The B-4 is the second most available variety, and is often sought by type collectors.
The present coin features a sharp strike, with fine detail present on most design elements. Stars 1 and 3 are a little flat, but all other devices are boldly defined. Light gold and lilac patina highlights the lustrous surfaces. The high-end status of this coin is confirmed by the plus designation. Currently, only seven coins have been certified in higher numeric grades by NGC and PCGS combined (8/10).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 23RZ, PCGS# 5353)
