Description

Outstanding 1834 Gem Quarter, B-4

1834 25C MS65 NGC. CAC. B-4, R.1. The left side of the 4 in the date is even with the edge of the curl, the eagle lacks a tongue, the feather end is centered over the 2 in the denomination, and the stem end is centered over the C. The obverse die is perfect, while the reverse is Tompkins (2008) die stage 2, displaying peripheral cracks.
The lustrous surfaces of this beautiful Gem exhibit cobalt-blue, purple, and golden-brown patina, slightly deeper in hue and more extensive on the reverse. An exacting strike leaves sharp definition on the design elements, except for softness in two or three of the star centers. Both sides are impeccably preserved. Fantastic overall eye appeal is confirmed by the CAC green label. Census: 9 in 65, 5 finer (10/08).
