Description

1834 B-1 Quarter, MS65
Intricate Strike, Smooth Surfaces

1834 25C O Over F in OF, B-1, FS-901, R.1, MS65 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/4. The A in STATES is filled, but the lower leaf pair remains attached to the branch. Medium wheat-gold and steel-gray toning embraces this essentially unabraded Capped Bust type coin. A sharp strike and good luster contribute further to the eye appeal. There are five different 1834 die marriages, but B-1 can be identified at a glance, due to the absence of a period after the C in 25 C. While the Colonel Green / Eric Newman example is regarded as the finest of the variety, the present piece is nonetheless a candidate for the Condition Census, and is a formidable addition to an advanced collection.
