Description
1836 25C B-2, R.2, AU55 NGC. CAC. Tompkins Die State 7/4. Several lengthy die cracks on both sides allow prompt attribution. A pleasing stone-gray quarter with freckles of deeper gunmetal-blue toning near the rims. Minimally marked, and the strike is crisp except for minor rounding on stars 6 and 7. The Choice surfaces retain traces of mint luster. Census (all 1836 varieties): 13 in 55, 45 finer. CAC: 4 in 55, 11 finer (4/17).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2015), lot 3537.
