Description

1836 B-2 Quarter, MS62
Iridescently Patinated
Ex: Green, Newman

1836 25C B-2, R.2, MS62 NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Tompkins Die State 6/1. The lengthy obverse die cracks are characteristic of the Browning-2 marriage. The variety is plentiful in VF and XF, but attractive Mint State examples are rare. The present satiny specimen has delightful ruby-red, sky-blue, and autumn-gold toning. Consequential contact is confined to a slender field line east of the shield. Among the finest-known examples of the die marriage.
Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society; Eric P. Newman Collection Part II (Heritage, 11/2013), lot 33177, which realized $4,700.
