Description

1836 Bust Quarter, Fine 12
Rare Browning-5 Variety

1836 25C B-5, High R.6, Fine 12 NGC. B-5 is, by a wide margin, the rarest 1836 die marriage. A rising crack through STATE, and heavy cracks near star 1 and the 6 in the date, combine to identify the elusive Browning variety. The obverse die cracks were undoubtedly responsible for an early retirement of the obverse die. This example has steel-gray fields and pearl-white high points. A thin line crosses the upper half of the first three date digits, but there are no other mentionable marks.
