Description
Impressive MS64 1836 Quarter, B-2
1836 25C MS64 PCGS. B-2, R.2. Lushly toned in apricot, electric-blue, and olive colors, this flashy near-Gem has exceptional eye appeal when viewed with the unaided eye. In its appearance in the Isaac Edmunds auction, the lot was described, in part, as "At first glance, this has the appearance of a nice cameo Proof. Indeed, Proof examples were struck from this die pair." Well struck aside from the centers of stars 4 and 7. Four lengthy, slender die cracks journey across the obverse, one of which bisects the portrait. A few wispy marks are detected in the fields, only visible upon close inspection under a loupe, and a small aqua spot is noted just beneath the neck. Population: 6 in 64, 1 finer (8/08).Ex: Isaac Edmunds Collection (Bowers and Merena, 6/02), lot 479, where it realized $6,900.
