Description

1837 Capped Bust Quarter, MS64+
Bold Satin Luster, Browning-2

1837 25C B-2, R.1, MS64+ PCGS. Tompkins Die State 2/2. Lustrous and mostly untoned, this silver-white B-2 example shows a few areas of russet and tan-gold toning at the borders. On the obverse, star 9 is boldly recut. The reverse die was reused in 1838 for the final Capped Bust quarter issue. This nicely preserved high-end, near-Gem example shows only a few superficial marks. The B-2 variety is the only 1837 die pair where the final A of AMERICA is close to the top arrowhead. PCGS Population: 2 in 64+, 21 finer. (7/26).
