1837 Capped Bust Quarter, B-2, MS65
Deeply Toned and Semiprooflike
1837 25C B-2, R.1, MS65 PCGS. The 1837 had one of the lower
mintage figures of the reduced diameter Capped Bust type at just
252,400 coins, but remains one of the more obtainable dates in Mint
State, much to the delight of both date and type collectors.
Nonetheless, Gem-quality examples are conditionally rare, and
anything finer is exceedingly so. This representative is delicately
preserved and showcases distinct semiprooflike mirroring in the
fields beneath original forest-green, sun-gold, and russet-brown
toning. The eagle's talons and the left-hand obverse stars are
weakly struck, but there are no other complaints. A truly
eye-appealing Gem type coin from near the end of the Capped Bust
series. Population (all varieties included): 13 in 65, 7 finer
