1838 Capped Bust Quarter, B-1, MS64
Lustrous and Attractive Final-Year Type Coin
1838 25C B-1, R.1, MS64 NGC. Despite a reported mintage of
366,000 pieces, just one die marriage is known for 1838 quarters.
This is a Choice Uncirculated example, with golden-tan toning and
traces of blue at the margins. A glass reveals a number of faint,
hair-thin abrasions in the left obverse field beneath the
attractive patina, as well as a small pinscratch beneath the left
(facing) wing. The strike and eye appeal are strong throughout both
sides. Census: 19 in 64 (1 in 64+), 5 finer (4/18).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23S5, Variety PCGS# 39015, Base PCGS# 5357, GSID# 393250)
