Description
Alluring 1838 Capped Bust Quarter, MS62
1838 25C MS62 NGC. B-1, R.1. The only Capped Bust quarter variety known for the year. Die State II, as evidenced by the clash marks on the reverse. A lovely layer of frost covers the surfaces of this untoned and attractive specimen. Several light abrasions are located in the fields, but overall this piece is exceptionally unmarked for the grade. There is just a trace of weakness on the stars, but the reverse is outstanding and nearly full throughout. This was the final issue of Kneass' Capped Bust design, which was replaced when the Mint switched to a 90% silver standard. Census: 16 in 62, 42 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 5357, GSID# 5096)
