Splendid 1838 B-1 Capped Bust Quarter, MS63
1838 25C MS63 NGC. B-1, R.1. The only known Capped Bust quarter variety struck during the transition from the Capped Bust to the Seated Liberty design. Minted during most years since 1815, the design was about to be replaced by Christian Gobrecht who developed the famous and long-lived design for silver dollars first produced in 1836. Deeply toned in variegated gold, russet, and sea-green Census: 18 in 63, 24 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 5357, GSID# 5096)
