Description
Satiny, Toned MS66 1838 Capped Bust Quarter, B-1
1838 25C MS66 NGC. B-1, R.1. Lilac and apricot colors fill the centers, while the margins are adorned with blue-green patina. This intricately struck premium Gem has remarkably clean surfaces, and the satin luster is easily seen through the attractive toning. An outstanding final-year type coin. Although 366,000 pieces are reported to have been produced, only one die pair is known, which suggests that either the dies were unusually hardy, or some of the reported delivery may have been dated 1837. The production of Seated quarters began later in 1838. Census: 3 in 66, 0 finer (11/08).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 5357, GSID# 5096)
