Description

1838 25C MS66 NGC. B-1, R.1. Only a single die marriage is known for 1838 Bust Quarters, which is not surprising since the Seated Liberty design (initially produced on Gobrecht Dollars) was modified for the denomination later that same year. Dusky sea-green and apricot-gray patina endows this satiny and magnificently struck premium Gem. A lovingly preserved high grade representative of this scarce type, which was struck in much smaller quantities than the Bust Half Dollar. Tied for honors of finest certified. As of (6/04), NGC has encapsulated 4 pieces as MS66 with none finer, while PCGS has certified a solitary MS66 and none in higher grades.(#5357) (Registry values: P2)
