Rare Gaime, Guillemot BG-218
1853 25C Liberty Round 25 Cents, BG-218, R.7, AU58 PCGS. Ex:
Jack Totheroh Collection. An apple-green and orange-gold Borderline
Uncirculated example. The semiprooflike surfaces show only
incidental contact. The obverse die also coined BG-217; the reverse
die is unique to BG-218 and features a low date entered too far
right. The GG initials beneath the bust represent Gaime, Guillemot
& Co. All varieties by that firm are rare. Population: 2 in 58, 5
finer (3/18).Ex: Robert Leece, 5/1993; Jack Totheroh Collection (Holabird-Kagin, 4/2013), lot 144, which realized $3,643.
