Description

1868 Indian Round Half Dollar, BG-1073
    Well-Preserved, Reflective MS64

1868 50C Indian Round 50 Cents, BG-1073, High R.7, MS64 Prooflike NGC. This 1868 Indian round half dollar is one of the many "backdated" issues of this design by Christopher "Christoph" Ferdinand Mohrig, all using the same reverse die showing the curved top of the bow loop. Among such backdated issues known from the same reverse are 1852, 1868, 1874, 1876, 1880, and 1881, all apparently made around the same time. This piece shows nicely reflective surfaces that are suggestive of a higher grade but fall just shy of a Prooflike designation. NGC reports two Prooflike pieces finer -- one each in MS65 and MS66 (11/15).
