    Description

    Noteworthy 1871 Octagonal Quarter, BG-715, MS66 PCGS

1871 25C Liberty Octagonal 25 Cents, BG-715, Low R.6, MS66 PCGS. The same obverse die was used by Frontier, Deviercy, & Co. for BG-711 through BG-717. BG-715 is distinguished by the reverse legends; both DOLLAR and the 1871 date are entered with a decided upward slant. Although the reverse is unique for this variety, on this example a network of fine die cracks (as made) connect the denominational legends. This golden-brown Gem is well struck, splendidly preserved, and has imposing eye appeal. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (10/03). (#10542) (NGC ID# 2BMS, PCGS# 10542)
