Lovely 1876/5 Indian Octagonal Dollar, BG-11291876/5 $1 Indian Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-1129, R.4 MS64 PCGS. Ex: Jay Roe. Struck from the same dies as BG-1127 and BG-1128, but modified by the maker. The obverse denticles are longer and the reverse wreath is heavier than on the aforementioned varieties. The 6 in the date is crudely recut over a 5, as made. Honey-gold patina graces this prooflike and crisply struck near-Gem. The obverse field is especially well preserved. The plate coin for BG-1129 in the second edition of the standard Breen-Gillio reference.
Ex: Jay Roe Collection (Bowers and Merena, 9/03), lot 577.(#10940) (NGC ID# 2C3X, PCGS# 10940)
