Description

Possibly Unique 1909-C Specimen 65 PCGS Sovereign

Edward VII gold Specimen Sovereign 1909-C, KM14, Specimen 65 PCGS. A magnificent strike, with brilliant golden color and only the faintest mark on the obverse to mar the otherwise pristine surfaces. This issue is extremely rare in Gem Mint State, and this may be the only surviving Specimen example. The Ottawa Mint sovereigns are quite popular and Gem examples very rare. The 1908 issue was only struck in Specimen, therefore higher grade examples are a bit more plentiful than the 1909 and 1910 which are almost non-existent in Gem condition, with a total of four regular issue 1909 and 1910 certified by PCGS in Gem, and this single 1909 MS65 Specimen. No other 1909 Specimen has been certified by a major grading service. A wonderful opportunity for the collector of fine Canadian coins to acquire one of the rarest of issues.
