Description

George V 5 Cents 1921 VF30 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM22a. Choice for the type, with light gray surfaces and subtle, underlying tones of peach and teal that reside in the fields. A moderate amount of wear evenly affects the designs--however, remaining detail across both sides still pleases the eye--and despite a number of grade-aligning handling ticks, the expanses are free of any overly obtrusive marks. The surviving mintage of this issue numbers under 500 pieces, with few examples of the type coming up for auction in recent past. The decision to change the 5 cent from the current silver metal to nickel had a significant impact on this date, as the only other year from this series-1920-was then held as reserve, sending nearly the whole of the 1921 mintage to the melting pot. As such, many collections are without this key issue, which makes this an important opportunity to obtain such a rarity.
