George V Specimen 25 Cents 1928 SP67 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM24a. Easily the finest known example of this extremely elusive and underrated specimen date, with the PCGS population reports reflecting only the current coin, and a search for other examples in named collections or museum holding yielding only the Norweb coin that the catalogers believed to be of specimen quality, but PCGS had designated a business strike. This coin, unquestionably a fine presentation piece, is as close to pristine as one could image, with absolutely mark-free surfaces that showcase razor-sharp detail and silky smooth texture. Minimally toned in the centers, a thin ring of mauve and gold coloration accompanies the legends, adding a touch of character to the surfaces. Upon magnified inspection, we note what must surely be a unique characteristic of the 1928 specimen issue -- tooling marks atop the N in CENTS as well as the CANA in CANADA that were hand-scratched into the die. All considered, one of the most enchanting quarters of George V, sure to captivate the series specialist that is drawn not only to rarity, but also majestic quality.
