Description

A Captivating Heaton Mint Specimen Issue from 1880
Ex. Heaton Mint Archives

Victoria Specimen "Wide 0" 25 Cents 1880-H SP68 PCGS, Heaton mint, KM5. A jaw-dropping specimen of the date, easily in 99.99th percentile of all surviving Victorian coinage in terms of quality, with exemplary eye-appeal and near-pristine surfaces that have remained in institutional quality since the day they were minted. A fully toned Superb Gem, the obverse surfaces displays enchanting bands of pastel colors, transitioning from violet and rose hue to blue to greenish-yellow as the eye moves from left to right, with a more circular pattern that flows inward from the rims on the reverse. Silvery luster peaks out from beneath the tone on both sides, and the sparkle created from careful die preparation remains undiminished. Altogether, a unique presentation -  one of most notable world-class coins from the Eric Beckman Collection of Canadian Coins.
