Description

Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1809 So-FJ MS63 NGC, Santiago mint, KM68, Cal-1400, Elizondo-65. A fantastic example of this rare two-year Chilean 8 Reales sub-type featuring an "imaginary" Ferdinand VII bust in military-style dress. The transitional date of this type, 1808, is of immense rarity and seldom appears at auction, leaving the 1809 issue, though still very scarce, as the popular target for type collectors. This is easily the nicest example of an 1809 Santiago 8 Reales that Heritage has ever witnessed, and it is, in fact, the only Mint State specimen to ever pass through our firm. Boasting a Millenia provenance, lovely antique gray patina, and no discernable wear; this is a selection that should have Chilean numismatists overjoyed.
