Lustrous and Well Struck Near-Choice Imperial Dollar

Hsüan-t'ung Dollar Year 3 (1911) MS62+ PCGS, Tientsin mint, KM-Y31.1, L&M-36, WS-0046A. Period after "DOLLAR" variety. A supremely pleasing, icy-white example resting on the cusp of Choice, only held back from higher classification by a few instances of impact that do little to detract from the visual acuity at hand. Representing the rarest of the three recognized varieties of this iconic imperial issue, it consistently captures the attention of advanced collectors when encountered at Mint State levels. Despite the type's reputation for soft strikes, this specimen displays confidently defined scales that contrast elegantly against the alluring resplendence beneath, firmly establishing it as a standout candidate for a refined collection. Among the 500 examples certified by PCGS, only ten are graded finer.
