Description
Low-Mintage "Inventions and Discoveries" Gold Kilo
People's Republic gold Proof "Compass" 2000 Yuan (1 Kilo) 1992
PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Shenyang mint, Cheng-pg 108 (1), CC-408.
Mintage: 10. Inventions and Discoveries series. Series I. Serial
#08. An incredibly low-mintage emission from this ever-popular
Inventions and Discoveries series, here celebrating the invention
of the compass during the Han Dynasty around the 2nd century BC.
This spacious Kilo issue wears its near-perfect designation with
pride, a mark of consequence not to be found on the deeply mirrored
surfaces. One of three examples certified at this top pop grade at
NGC, our offering exhibits the highest technical quality one could
expect from this type, a fact we expect to be matched with fierce
bidding activity on the block. Accompanied by the original
embroidered case and COA #08.The compass was first invented in ancient China, initially using naturally magnetized lodestone, during the Han Dynasty around the 2nd century BC. It was originally employed for geomancy and fortune-telling, aligning buildings according to the principles of feng shui. By the time of the Song Dynasty, between the 11th and 12th centuries, the compass had evolved into a navigational instrument, significantly enhancing Chinese maritime capabilities and influencing navigation worldwide. The obverse design here harkens to one of the earliest references to magnetism and its directional qualities comes from the "Lunheng," a philosophical text written by Wang Chong in the 1st century AD, which describes the "south-pointing spoon" made of lodestone.

PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC。
