Qing Dynasty. Secret Society Membership Token ND (1858-1862) Certified 82 by Gong Bo Grading, 41.3x2.1mm. 18.0gm. "????" (Yi Ji Jin Qian). A token laced in historical mystery, produced during the reign of Xian Feng but created for the a secret group called the "Golden Coin Society" as a badge of loyalty. This secret society was formed in 1858 by eight people but it would grow in numbers and eventually form a rebellion against the Qing Dynasty in 1861. These token coins, which were the inspiration behind the society's name, would be displayed at members' waists, often accompanied by red headbands. The piece presented here is graded among the GBCA's "Beautiful Products - ??" category.
