Description

Near-Choice "Civilian" Issue

Republic Tsao Kun Dollar ND (1923) MS62 NGC, Tientsin mint, L&M-958, Kann-677, WS-0104. Civilian dress variety. An impressive example of the Tsao Kun Dollar variant, featuring the President of the Republic of China in western-style civilian dress-a distinctive departure from military portraiture of the era. The surfaces are dressed in a lace of russet toning, with subtle dapples of petroleum-blue emerging along the border. Die polish remains visible in the fields, accompanied by a few wispy hairlines that likely account for the near-Choice designation. Even so, the coin exhibits a gratifying underlying luminosity that enhances its overall presentation. An elegant and widely admired issue within the Republic "Portrait" Dollar series.
