China: Qing Dynasty. Wen Zong (Xian Feng) Engraved Master 5 Cash ND (1854-1857) Certified 88 by Gong Bo Grading,
Description
Stunning Engraved Master 5 Cash
Qing Dynasty. Wen Zong (Xian Feng) Engraved Master 5 Cash ND
(1854-1857) Certified 88 by Gong Bo Grading, Board of Works
mint (New Branch), cf. Hartill-22.750 (for standard issue).
30.9x2.0mm. 10.0gm. An elusive Engraved Master from the Board of
Works mint, and the first of this denomination we've yet seen.
Everything one could expect from such a masterful emission, with
laudably bold characters that rise in clear contrast against the
low-lying fields and nary a visual imperfection of note. While a
few small handful of Mother issues have come to market recently,
they lack the characteristic clarity and general appearances of the
Engraved issues, having been created earlier in the production
process. An obvious target for the Cash specialist, especially from
the reign of Wen Zong, where examples of any denomination rarely
come to market. From the Peh Family Collection
