Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Specimen Pattern Dollar ND (1897) SP66 PCGS, Heaton (Birmingham) mint, L&M-210C, Chang Foundation-80 (this coin), cf. Kann-66 (for standard issue), cf. WS-0786-8 (same). Plain edge. Few can claim to match the level of aesthetic and preservational quality accompanying this absolute rarity, engraved and struck at the Heaton mint for export to China. Attractively styled with all devices immaculately impressed upon the flashy canvas beneath and further accentuated by lavender and tangerine tone throughout, the piece on offer stands as a clear outlier for this already elusive Pattern. A clear trophy for any collection, standing at the peak of the PCGS census with a single other, and undoubtedly a great rarity when located this fine.
