Description

Founding of the Republic Gold Presentation Dollar

Republic Sun Yat-sen gold Specimen Pattern Dollar ND (1912) SP62 PCGS, Nanking mint, KM-Pn9, L&M-1086, Kann-1550. Lower five-pointed stars. A cause for celebration to see this type, so recognizable in silver, here in gold format. Issued to commemorate the founding of the Republic, this presentation format preceded the circulation strikings in silver, ushering in the provisional presidency of Sun Yat-sen, so-called "Father of China" to important dignitaries, a symbolic initiation of power that would not have been lost on those political figureheads. This is the first off-metal portrait Dollar available from the Chinese series and it remains one of the most challenging presentation pieces to acquire from this era, with only six examples currently certified across PCGS and NGC. Inevitably, its appearance at auction is extremely limited, this being the only example we have offered at our firm since the Ultima specimen in 2014. The appearance of this Peh specimen absolutely befits its laudable rank at PCGS, die polish lines striating the flan, creating an exuberant bed of luster. A rich harvest tone further enriches the impact in hand, which, in combination with the metal's weightiness, creates not only a visual but a corporeal experience so few have enjoyed with this type. A proud offering we are certain will be targeted by trophy hunters.

SP62 PCGS。
