    Description

1861 Charles W. Bernacki, East Saginaw, MI, F-280A-3a, R.9, MS64 Red and Brown NGC. The city of East Saginaw was situated on the east bank of the Saginaw river, and, in 1863, was the northern terminus of the Flint and Pere Marquette railway. Charles W. Bernacki and his partner, G. Fred Hobbs, were chemists and druggists, and Bernacki was also an agent for the Germania Life Insurance Company. This Choice Mint State token has satin luster on the obverse with an attractive blend of original red color and bluish-brown toning. The reverse has frosty red luster with light brown toning. Only three or four examples of this variety are known, and this is likely the finest.
Purchased from James Kelly (12/20/1941) for 35 cents. Said to be from the Virgil Brand Collection.
From The Clifton A. Temple Collection.
