Description1863 George Beard & Son, Detroit, MI, F-225G-2i, R.9, MS66 NGC. Per this cataloger's research, George Beard & Son's Oyster, Fruit, Fish & Game Depot was located under the Russell House Hotel. The son's name is listed as William Beard in the 1864 Detroit city directory. The dies were made by John Stanton, using the 1042 reverse die. This token is one of only two to four examples struck for collectors on a zinc plated copper planchet. A wonderful Premium Gem, it is likely the finest of those few known examples, with brilliant and lustrous gray surfaces showing hints of the underlying copper planchet.
