Description

1863 Randal's Photographic Gallery, Detroit, MI, F-225BG-1a1, R.9, MS66 Brown NGC. James Janeway Randall, a photographer located in room 12 of the Fisher Block on Woodward Avenue and / or his son Corydon issued this Store Card. James was born in 1815 in Hartford, CT. He had a son, Corodon (later the spelling was changed to Corydon) Chandler Randall who was also a photographer and involved in the family business. C. C. Randall donated 75,000 photos and negatives to Clarence Burton and these are now part of the Burton Historical Society Collection in Detroit. This extremely rare specimen of the Randall Store Card is struck in copper and has a Plain Edge. Despite the Brown designation, the obverse of this rare token has considerable deep red color with splashes of bluish-brown toning. The reverse has blue and violet toning over its brown surfaces with traces of red. An amazing Premium Gem, and almost certainly the finest of only three or four known.
