1864 MI-587B-2d Lyons Token, MS64
A. Button, War Claims
Considered Unique

1864 A. Button, Lyons, MI, F-587B-2d, R.10, MS64 NGC. Located in Ionia County, about 120 miles from Detroit, Lyons was situated on the Grand river, six miles from the town of Ionia. Alphonso Button lived in Saranac (about 20 miles from Lyons) and was admitted to the bar in 1862, serving as a claim agent until 1889. He was a farmer in earlier years until 1858. Button was born in Oxford, New York, on July 18, 1834, and was married to Helen Webber in 1864. He died at Saranac on July 4, 1913. The Fuld revision rates this copper-nickel token as R.10, or unique. This highly lustrous near-Gem has exceptional eye appeal with light tan surfaces and reflective fields. A few planchet flakes and carbon flecks prevent a higher grade.
Purchased from James Kelly (12/20/1941) for $2.00. Said to be from the Virgil Brand Collection.
