Description1864 Hilterscheid Bros., Detroit, MI, F-225AM-3d, R.9, MS65 NGC. This example of the Hilterscheid Detroit Store Card is struck on a copper-nickel planchet, with maybe two examples known. This token was part of a large group of Michigan copper-nickel Store Cards acquired by Cliff Temple in 1946. An impressive Gem, this copper-nickel token has prooflike tan surfaces with delicate gold toning and minimal carbon flecks.
Should any Michigan specialists decide that another opportunity will soon arise to bid on these unique tokens, we merely need to point out that all of these copper-nickel pieces have been in the Temple collection for 66 years. Collectors who are less than 35 years old might have another chance.
Purchased from C. Verhoeven (3/14/1946) for $2.50.
