    Description

Uncirculated "John Bell For President" Silver Token
One of Just a Few Known

John Bell Civil War Patriotic Token. Fuld-509/510Af, Sullivan JB-1860-11, R.9. Silver, plain edge, 21.7 mm, 5.1 gm. Obverse: FOR PRESIDENT JOHN BELL OF TENNESSEE, with a raised circle at 12 o'clock to aid in holing for suspension, but this piece is not holed. Reverse: PRESIDENTS HOUSE above with view of the White House below. A richly toned example of this seemingly impossible-to-find token. The obverse is a pleasant blend of deep gray and variegated green and lavender coloration. Subtle light golden patination uniformly blankets the reverse with a classic display of "pull away" russet toning observed on the letters of the legend, attesting to the utter originality of this piece. Kanzinger's 2002 price guide put this variety at $2000 in "UNC." This specimen is Select Uncirculated and worthy of a premium bid well above the 2002 level.
