Description
Rare 1864 Patriotic Civil War Token, Off Center. Fuld-125/294a, Sullivan-AL-1864-48, R.7. Copper, 19.1 mm. Bust of Lincoln facing left on obverse, with ABM. LINCOLN / PRESIDENT around and horizontal digits of "18" and "64" at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions, respectively. The reverse features a wreath with a shield and flags at the bottom and a small star at top. FREE / DOM on two lines occupy the center. An interesting piece due to the fact that it is struck approximately 2% off center towards 7 o'clock, resulting in a localized double rim on both sides. Medium chocolate-brown surfaces and a pleasing XF token despite some dirt residue clinging to the devices.Learn more at the Newman Numismatic Portal at Washington University in St. Louis.
