Description
Important Mint State 1834 Crosslet 4 Half Eagle
1834 Crosslet 4 MS 62 PCGS. One of the unsung rarities among gold coins from the 1830s, the Crosslet 4 is easily the most elusive of all Classic half eagles. Its rarity is, in fact, more similar to the previous two designs from 1813-29 and 1829-34 than the Classic series. The surfaces on this exceptional Crosslet 4 are boldly detailed in virtually all areas, just falling short of completeness on Liberty's highest curls and a few of the stars. Both sides exhibit splendid green-gold color and sparkling luster that is affected only by trivial scuffiness in the fields. A coin of great importance to the early gold specialist and the finest Crosslet 4 we have ever offered. Population: 4 in 62, 1 finer (12/98).Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8172, GSID# 8857)
Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
Weight: 8.36 grams
